Last week, I had the pleasure of presenting my latest research outputs to colleagues and students at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
My latest research focuses on technological innovation in the luxury sector. Yet what intrigues me the most is not technology for its own sake, but the strategic and cultural implications it carries for the future of luxury.
It was particularly exciting to share this work across disciplines, and I am especially grateful for the opportunity to reflect on how technology is transforming luxury value delivery: I often draw the image of Janus, the Roman God of transitions, who embodies the contradictions and the ambiguities between the past and the future.
The findings of my research shows that managers and providers in the art and cultural sectors acknowledge the value and the benefits of technological innovation, but they are also extremely aware of the negative effects technology can have on the delivery of a luxury experience.
